The theme this year was “Express Yourself.” All the projects were centered around the style of abstract expressionism. Students were taught art fundamentals while exploring bold colors, crazy lines and shapes, and wild landscapes. The favorite thing the students learned was how to mix paint to create tints and shades. Students ranged in age from 6 to 14. Classes took place twice a week for 4 weeks.

*Abstract Expressionism is a free-flowing method of art that focuses on shape, color and expression of feeling as opposed to creating a specific, detailed image. I always strive to instill confidence in all of my students no matter their skill level; however, this series has been specifically designed as an introduction to art with the goal of self expression without intimidation or pressure to be “a great artist.”

The cottage…

The Art Cottage was originally a coal shed for my parent’s coal burning house stove. In 2014, my family and I converted it into a little cottage that has served as a themed set for many of my mom’s summer Grandma’s Camps, as well as a spare room for visiting family, and now an art studio.
